Mandate:

The National Archives Records Committee established under the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts Act 2021, has for mandate to advise the Principal Archivist of the National Archives in regards to the transfer and retention of records for permanent preservation.

Functions:

1. Appraise files that have attained 30 years of age and specify files that should be retained permanently and those that will be destroyed;
2. Work in close collaboration with the Providence Records Centre for records emanating from Government, Ministries and Agencies;
3. Work in close collaboration with the Records Processing Unit for permanent retention of records that have been appraised;
4. Any other matter, which may be prescribed by regulations, and shall specify those records which in its opinion are of enduring or historical value.

Composition:

Members of the National Archives Records Committee will comprise of representatives of various entities and other individuals who has the ability to contribute to the achievement of objective of the committee. The Chairperson of the committee shall be Principal Archivist of the National Archives.

Meetings

The Committee will meet every two weeks. Minutes of meetings will be taken to record the decisions taken by the members and send within 10 working days following the meeting.

Term of Office:

The committee is appointed by the Secretary General of the Culture Institute for a period of 3 years with an option of renewal.
